Performance Review
Well, well well. Had my annual review today. We get scored in various areas on a scale of 1-5, with five being best. My lowest score on any one area was a 4.5, and my boss gave me an overall score of 5. Guess how much of a raise I got. G'wan, guess! TWO PERCENT. Sorry, make that TWO MOTHERFUCKING PERCENT. I mean, you should get that much for continuing to have a pulse. It's not even a goddamn extra grand a year. And I was NICE about it to my boss. I said I understood, said it was "better than a poke in the eye". No it's not. It's a fiscal poke in the eye. It's a fiscal poke in the eye coupled with the finger. Husband isn't getting anything for merit, either. "There's no money for it", he's told. Hmm. Then how come the C-O-O's brand new hoochie wife has TWENTY GRAND on her ring finger? Hmmmm? At least where I work, no one's getting rich. Where he works, some people actually ARE, and they're fucking the people who help make 'em the money. How they sleep at night I don't know. And I'm no socialist....I believe in every man for himself (for the most part), and I LIKE to think that if you work hard and do good work, you'll get rewarded. Man, am *I* naive. So...I'm getting the fiscal finger by way of a raise, and I'm surrounded by (thank you lorster for reminding me of the word) a bunch of clueless asshats who quibble about the pronunciation of the Romanian word for dulcimer (that is not a joke, people, it's an actual voice mail on my phone), or volunteers who are so technically clueless (and refuse to become clueful) that they fuck up automated programming because they don't have any idea what they are doing, or idiot conspiracy theorist callers who think we are covering up certain stories by NPR as some sort of plot to control the news. Nah, I don't need a raise. I should consider myself lucky to have a job, right? Feh.
