Who ARE these people?

Fat fat the water rat

Just when you think you're well adjusted, something comes outta the woodwork and smacks you in the face.

There's a thread on wedding channel (yes, I still hang out there) about celebrity women who lose weight after they become hot. Now, we aren't talking the Missy Elliot's of the world dropping a few, we're talking the Reese Witherspoons going from size 4 to size 0.

So the discussion was going on, with most posters saying they thought the women actually looked better with a little more weight, etc. One person posts and says no, SHE thinks they look fine when they are very thin, and she's sick of the way US society "glorifies obesity". In fact, she's "sick of having to look at obese people on the street".

Well excuse the fuck outta me. Now I'm not even supposed to be ON THE STREET? People are sick of "having" to look at me? And the glorified obesity thing. Yeah, being fat was sure glorified the day I went to EVERY department store in town and couldn't find anything appropriate to wear on my wedding night. (fat girls aren't sexy, you know) It's sure glorified by all the diet ads and fashion magazines. it's sure glorified when JLo is considered "big" and "real".

It's like we fat chicks can't hate ourselves ENOUGH, you know? The mere fact that we EXIST offends. And no, saying "jennifer aniston needs a sandwich" is NOT the same thing as insulting fat people. Because, see, in the whole "too thin" thing is the idea that yeah, they may be so thin as to be unattractive to some people, but, overall, Thin Is Good. People would rather be stupid than fat. So no. I will NEVER buy that making a negative comment about a thin person is identical to being negative to fat people. Because it ain't. Because at the end of the day, the thin people are still society's ideal. They are still able to buy clothes and feel like they are what they are supposed to be. Eating disorders can go both ways....the overeating and the anorexic/bulimic. But the compulsive overeater, if she is fat, is ashamed of both the behavior and the result. Anorexics and bulimics, while intelletcually many know the behavior is bad/unhealthy, aren't ASHAMED of the results....aka, being thin.

I'm rambling, I know. But think about it for a minute, if someone said they were sick of having to look at you in public. Think about it. And it's far more prevalent than we'd think.

Off to eat a pint of ice cream, a bag of cookies and a whole chicken.

Not. Don't but THAT myth, either.
