Who ARE these people?

blame the victims

OK, I'm getting annoyed. After the first wave of "Oh my God that's terrible", now I'm coming across people blaming the victims for what happened Tuesday. A caller on NPR just said something to the effect of "what do we expect, when we walk out on these groups in conference". Great. We got attacked because we aren't supporting the self esteem of Islamic fundamentalists. Then there are the IRC discussions about how we are evil capitalists and since we exploit the rest of the world, we deserved this.

There was no institution that got attacked and killed here. These were PEOPLE who were just living their lives on what they thought would be a normal Tuesday, and they were annhilated. People were sitting at their DESKS for cying out loud. They didn't "deserve" to be "taught" any kind of lesson. No, America is NOT perfect. There's a lot of stuff that's fucked up about this country, and I'm sure I bitch about a lot of it. But there's also a lot of stuff that's good about this country. Who helped rebuild Europe after the war? Helped Japan become the world power it is? Offers aid to other nations? Saved France's butt in WWII? But civilians are attacked and somehow WE had it coming? Puhleeze.

And IRC is annoying me tonight. I seem to have stepped into a socialist meeting on my normal channel. Somehow it's bad that we're concerned about opening the markets, and a depression would do us good. Yeah, it would do me a ton of good to lose my job and declare bankruptcy.

But I'm sure I "deserve" to be taught a lesson.
